There is an immediate opening for a Conventional Instrument Supervisor at the Sweeny Complex. This position is in the Maintenance Department and will be responsible for supervising a crew of hourly conventional instrument maintenance craft employees. The successful candidate will work closely with operations and maintenance to ensure safe and efficient execution of daily maintenance activities.

This position includes, but is not limited to the following key job responsibilities:

  • Advocate for safety by taking a proactive approach in the RAPTOR and Safety Tracker programs.

  • Applies Tenets and supports safety related processes as core value.

  • Conducts daily tailgate safety meetings.

  • Attends and participates in 10:00 a.m. Safety Discussion Meeting.

  • Participates in Job Safety Analyses and the development of safety action plans.

  • Assigns and directs conventional instrument work activities to meet schedule requirements and emergency operational issues.

  • Manages the conventional instrument PM work execution, SAP closure by due date and ensures all change requests are completed.

  • Ensures that all conventional instrument maintenance work is performed in compliance with company standards and all applicable environmental safety laws.

  • Supervises all LDAR and HRVOC repairs related to the Instrument Conventional equipment to target deadlines, manages yearly certifications, ensures reports and certifications are current and on file and responds to environmental corrective actions concerns.

  • Daily reporting on schedule compliance and execution.

  • Addresses and resolves employee issues through resolution.

  • Analyzes problems, evaluates alternatives and takes appropriate action.

  • Supports and ensures training obligations are met.

  • Works with planning and scheduling for continual process improvement.

  • Ensures that all completed work orders are TECO'd in SAP.

  • Performs weekend duty as assigned.

  • Coaches and develops employees to maximize their potential.

  • Manages timesheet data for daily work and overtime for the Conventional Instrument Craft.

  • May perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.


The successful candidate must demonstrate the following educational / experience requirements:

  • An Associate’s degree or certificate in an Instrumentation / Electronics field with a minimum of 7 years’ experience maintaining process instrumentation in an Industrial plant. Candidates with a more advanced degree will also be considered.

  • Ability to diagnose and repair control system instrumentation faults

  • Ability to read ILD’s, spec sheet, and product manuals to assist in repairs and material requisitioning.

  • Ability to interact with other departments to coordinate equipment repairs.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to complete assigned projects in a safe and timely manner.

  • Experience in maintenance and repair of control valves, electronic governors (Triconex, Woodward), ultrasonic flow meters, Bently Nevada vibration monitoring systems, and PLC’s is preferred.

  • Experienced in SAP notification / work order management and material requisitioning.

  • Must have excellent leadership, communication, written and verbal skills.

  • Proficiency in using various computer applications such as Microsoft Office Applications.

  • Prior supervisory experience is a plus and temporary upgrade positions are acceptable alternatives.
